Akshay’s clarification

Akshay started a news portal to report about his ‘return’ to Vimal. He responded to the report published on X (formerly Twitter) by writing: “’Returning’ as ambassador? Here are some facts from Bollywood Hungama, if you happen to be interested in things other than fake news. These ads were filmed on October 13, 2021. I have had nothing to do with the brand since I publicly announced the discontinuation of support. They can legally publish the already recorded ads until the end of next month. Relax and make some real news.”

Vimal’s new ad

Akshay was seen in Vimal’s new ad, along with fellow superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Ajay Devgn. His presence attracted the most criticism because it comes months after Akshay announced that he would stop endorsing the tobacco brand. He appeared in a previous Vimal advertisement with his fellow actors, but was criticized specifically because he is also the face of the anti-smoking public service announcement shown in movie theaters.

At the time, Akshay had announced the discontinuation of his endorsement by writing on X: “Sorry. I would like to apologize to you, all my fans and supporters. Your reaction in recent days has affected me deeply. While I have not and will not endorse tobacco, I respect your expression of feelings in light of my association with Vimal Elaichi. In all humility, I take a step back. I have decided to contribute the entire sponsorship fee to a good cause. The brand may continue to broadcast ads until the legal duration of the contract that binds me, but I promise to be extremely careful in making my future decisions. In return, I will always continue to ask for your love and your wishes.”

Akshay was last seen in Mission Raniganj which released last week in theatres.
