The Gujarat BJP unit on Saturday issued a notice after some party functionaries raised a fraud alert, receiving parcels sent in the name of state BJP chief CR Paatil. The party is contemplating lodging a police complaint, sources told The Indian Express.
“All workers are informed that they should not accept a parcel for which they have to pay cash on delivery and should return it,” the BJP note said. The party clarified that neither Paatil nor his office sent packages to any party officials or workers.

Among those who received such packages were Gujarat BJP vice-president Gordhan Zadaphia and state secretaries Jahanavi Vyas and Shital Soni. Vyas posted a photo of the package on his Facebook page. The delivery boy asked for Rs 1,500 for it, he said. The BJP leader added that when she checked with Paatil’s office, she was told that no such package had been sent to her.
Zadaphia could not be reached for comment. Paatil said, “We are investigating the matter and trying to find out who is involved in such activities. “Once we get detailed information about those people, we will decide whether to register an offence.”
According to Paatil, there was a “mattress cover” in the packages. “So far, we have come to know that the said packets were sent to three BJP leaders (Gordhanbhai Zadafiya, Sheetalben and Jahanvi Vyas) in my name. They have told the courier that ‘if Mr. Paatil wanted to send such a gift, he would send it for free,’” he said.
