OpenAI’s ChatGPT can browse the internet once again and will no longer be restricted to information until its training date i.e. September 2021. Currently, the new feature is only available to Plus and Enterprise users via GPT-4 , but OpenAI promises to provide web browsing capabilities. of ChatGPT to all users.

“ChatGPT can now navigate the Internet to provide you with up-to-date, authoritative information, complete with direct links to sources. “It is no longer limited to data prior to September 2021.”

Commenting on the resurgence of ChatGPT’s browsing capabilities on X, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman wrote: “We’re back.”

OpenAI says ChatGPT’s navigation capabilities can help with tasks that require up-to-date information, such as technical research, vacation planning, or choosing a device.

ChatGPT’s browsing capabilities are available through an extension called ‘Browser with Bing’. Interestingly, Bing, powered by Microsoft’s AI, offers the ability to browse the Internet for free, as does ChatGPT’s biggest competitor so far, Google’s Bard.

Notably, ChatGPT iOS users had received the update that provided web browsing capabilities in June, but the company had to soon stop the feature after users started using the chatbot to access paid content.

How to browse the Internet with ChatGPT?

ChatGPT Plus and Enterprise can enable the Browse with Bing extension in the launcher in GPT-4. Similarly, the ChatGPT mobile app can use the new feature by going to Settings, tapping New Features, and selecting Explore with the Bing extension.

ChatGPT can see, hear and speak:

Earlier this week, OpenAI also announced a set of new features for the company’s popular chatbot. After the latest update, ChatGPT now has the ability to answer user queries with five different voices, giving tough competition to voice assistants from tech giants like Apple and Google.

Additionally, OpenAI is using the multimodal capabilities of GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 to power ChatGPT’s image understanding. Users can now upload one or more images to ask ChatGPT questions, such as exploring the contents of my refrigerator to plan a meal or analyzing a complex graph for work-related data.
