India began their Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign on a positive note by defeating multiple-time champions Australia in Chennai. Initially, Australia were bowled out for 199, with the Indian spinners putting up a brilliant show. Then India’s chase began in the most horrific manner when Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer were dismissed for ducks. However, Virat Kohli (85) and KL Rahul (97*) put together a 150-plus run stand to lift India out of danger and ensure the hosts reached the 200-run target in 41.2 overs.

However, despite the victory, India is not among the top four nations after the first round of matches. The Indian cricket team led by Rohit Sharma is ranked fifth. New Zealand tops the list. Pakistan is ranked third while Bangladesh is ranked fourth.

Talking about the game, India beat Australia by six wickets to start their ICC World Cup campaign on a positive note in Chennai on Sunday. Half-centuries from Virat Kohli and KL Rahul fueled India’s chase of 200 after the home team lost three wickets with just two runs on the board. Thanks to Kohli and Rahul’s 165-run partnership for the fourth wicket, India completed the task in 41.2 overs.
