The move was taken after Pawar made a surprise visit to the Satara district hospital. The notice was issued to Satara civil surgeon Dr Yuvraj Karpe, deputy civil surgeon Dr Subhash Kadam, midwife Sarla Pund and other healthcare staff on September 21.

“The most shocking thing was finding the ICU, general and male wards stinky and dirty,” Pawar said.

The deputy director said more surprise visits will be made to the hospital to ensure orders are followed.
