IND predicted XI vs AUS: Rahul or Ishan, who opens in Shubman Gill’s absence? | Cricket | spcilvly

India Predicted XI vs Australia: The Rohit Sharma-led India team begins the ICC World Cup 2023 campaign with familiar rivals like Australia, whom they defeated twice last month. Despite the two victories, India will by no means make the mistake of taking lightly their opponents, who are reputed to have lifted the silver medal on five occasions.

While all departments appear to be in order, India will be forced to modify their opening combination due to the unavailability of Shubman Gill. Both coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma have confirmed that the young prodigy is unwell, but have not commented on his replacement or India’s playing XI.

In all likelihood it will be Ishan Kishan or KL Rahul, who will rise to the top to open the innings with Rohit. KL has been in impressive form since he returned from injury and has made the number four spot his own. In that case, it would be ideal for Ishan to leave to start the process with his Mumbai Indians teammate.

Ishan also showed great form, especially in the Asia Cup match against Pakistan, which was washed out by rain.

If we go down a little, all eyes will focus on Virat Kohli, who occupies the number three position. KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are two other batsmen available in the middle-order spot, making the Men in Blue look like a formidable batting unit.

This is not the end as India also boasts the assets of Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja, giving the team much-needed depth on both the batting and bowling fronts.

With the match scheduled to be played at Chepauk, known for helping spinners, India would like to field a three-faced spin attack. Ravichandran Ashwin, a last-minute addition to the 15-member World Cup squad, is likely to get a chance, with Kuldeep Yadav the second player.

Along with Jadeja, the three can bowl in tandem and prevent Australia from breaking the shackles like they did in Rajkot last month.

Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj can spearhead the seam attack, aided by Hardik Pandya.
