Maya says Cong caste poll an electoral gimmick, also criticizes BJP | spcilvly

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Mayawati on Saturday attacked the Congress over its leaders’ support for a caste poll and said citing the slogan ‘jiski jitini abadi uski utni hissedari’ (political representation based on numerical distribution ) was nothing more than a political trick.

“Has the Congress ever implemented the slogan within the party or in its governments since independence? No. So how can you trust them? On the contrary, the BSP showed how social justice can be implemented on the ground while in power,” Mayawati wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

In a series of posts, Maya said that both the BJP and the Congress were influencing the organization of the elections through various attractive election-oriented advertisements.

“The issue is that these announcements, which are now being made so close to the polls, were not thought of before and were not implemented in time. That is why these advertisements lack credibility and seem more related to surveys,” he added.

He also said that while people were struggling with unemployment, price rise and inflation, the BJP and Congress were busy cashing in on the issues of caste census, OBC and women’s reservation. “All this is done in an attempt to hide their failures, but people will no longer fall for these gestures,” Mayawati said.

The BSP supremo was referring to the fact that both the BJP and the Congress were carrying out nationwide campaigns to assert that the women’s reservation bill, which was recently passed by Parliament and has now become law after presidential assent , came about thanks to their efforts. Of late, Congress leaders have also flagged the demand for a caste survey and reservation for women, an aspect that most parties, including the BSP, are on the same page.
