Voting for all 40 Mizoram assembly seats will take place on November 7, the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced on October 9. The counting of votes will take place on December 3. Talking about the Mizoram schedule, the election commission said that the date of issue of Gazette notification is October 13, while the last date for making nominations is October 20. According to the Election Commission, the scrutiny of nominees will take place on October 20, while candidates will be able to withdraw their candidature before October 23. Of the 8.52 lakh voters in Mizoram, 4.13 lakh voters are men and 4.39 lakh are women. The first time voters in the state are 50,611.

The term of the Mizoram legislative assembly ends on December 17, 2023. The state is currently governed by the Mizo National Front (MNF). In 2018, in a 40-seat Mizoram Assembly, the Mizo National Front managed to win 26 seats with a vote share of 37.8 per cent. The Congress won five seats and the BJP won a single seat. Zoramthanga is the current chief minister of the state.

Coming back to the Election Commission conference, CEC’s Rajiv Kumar said that for the first time a new electoral seizure management system is being introduced for assembly elections to improve oversight and ensure incentive-free elections.

A total of 940 check posts have been set up for strict surveillance along the inter-state borders and to stop the entry of illicit liquor, cash, gifts and drugs, he said.

There will be zero tolerance for the use of money power and there will also be strict monitoring on suspicious online cash transfers through wallets, the CCA said. During the press conference, Rajiv Kumar said that these five states will have 1.77 lakh polling stations, of which 1.01 lakh will have webcasting facilities. More than 8,000 polling stations will be managed by women, he said.

Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Telangana and Mizoram will go to polls on different days, from November 7 to 30, and votes for the five states will be counted on December 3, the Election Commission said on Monday, setting the stage for the Lok Sabha 2024. center.
