In Rajasthan, on election day, November 23, more than 50,000 weddings are likely to take place as Dev Uthani Ekadashi, an auspicious day for marriage, also falls on the same day.

Dev Uthani Ekadashi is considered the most preferred occasion for weddings. It also marks the beginning of the wedding season.

On Monday, the Election Commission announced that voting for all 200 assembly seats in Rajasthan will be held on November 23 and counting of votes will take place on December 3.

According to a report by PTI Citing trade stakeholders, this could affect voter turnout in Rajasthan.

“Dev Uthani Ekadashi is the most auspicious occasion for weddings and all Hindu castes prefer to celebrate weddings on this day. More than 50,000 weddings are expected to take place on Dev Uthani Ekadashi this year,” said Ravi Jindal, president of All India Tent Decorators Welfare Association. PTI.

The voting could be affected due to the participation of a large number of people in the wedding ceremonies, from traders to family and relatives, Jindal added.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has set the target of 75% voter turnout at the 51,756 polling stations.

In the 2018 Rajasthan assembly polls, the voter turnout was 74.71%.

“In such a situation, a few lakh people will be directly or indirectly occupied on election day. Many may not be able to cast their vote as they are busy with their work or were not present at their polling stations on the day of voting,” Jindal was quoted as saying. PTI.

According PTI According to the report, event director Manish Kumar said, “On Dev Uthani Ekadashi, people go to other cities and districts as part of wedding parties. “Similarly, caterers, electricians, florists, music groups and all those involved in wedding-related work remain busy throughout the day and many of them may skip voting because of this.”
