The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (Yeida) on Friday said two roads connecting the greenfield Noida International Airport at Jewar with the Yamuna Expressway and the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway will be completed by the end of March next year.

A 75m wide and 8km long link road to connect Jewar Airport with the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway will be completed by March 24, 2024 as around 50% of the work on this stretch has already been completed Yeida officials said.

Regarding the 8.5-km second link road between Noida Airport and Yamuna Expressway for cargo purposes, Yeida officials said they have almost completed the formalities to select a company to build it.

“Work on the 8-km road, which is part of the 31-km highway between Noida Airport and Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, has been expedited for completion ahead of the scheduled time of March 24, 2024. of work, we hope that the road will be usable in February next year. The highway will further connect with the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway at Haryana’s Ballabhgarh, thereby also boosting connectivity with cities in Haryana,” said Shailendra Bhatia, officer on special duty at Yeida.

Once completed, the first phase of the airport will serve 12 million passengers annually and will increase to 70 million passengers in the fourth phase.

The first phase will have a 3,900 meter runway with a capacity of 28 aircraft stands and will cater to 100,000 air traffic movements annually, Noida International Airport (NIA) officials said.

A passenger terminal covering an area of ​​100,000 square meters will also be built, NIA officials said.

The Noida International Airport is expected to become operational ahead of the scheduled deadline of September 29, 2024, due to the rapid pace of work at the site, officials informed the Uttar Pradesh government.

So far, four floors of the air traffic control building have been completed and the remaining two floors will be ready soon, NIA officials said, adding that work on the interiors of the terminal building will begin after three months.

“Our aim is to have road connectivity to the airport before it becomes operational,” Bhatia said.

Regarding the road for cargo purposes, Yeida said the road will be 10.5 kilometers long, between Yamuna Expressway and Noida Airport, and will be constructed in two parts: 8.5 kilometers in phase one and 2 kilometers in phase two.

“We hope that work on this 8.5 kilometer road will begin next month because we want cargo traffic to remain separate from passenger traffic. We have already called a tender for the road to be built with a budget of $57 crores. We will soon widen this road by another 2 km once we have suitable land. The 8km stretch will be completed by the end of March 2024,” Bhatia said.
